Excursion: Sintra and the end of Continent

July 30, 14:30 - 18:30
Departure and arrival: Aula Magna

We take the highway directly to Sintra, the former residence of the Portuguese kings, wonderful vegetation due to the microclimate of the mountain making it seem like a huge garden with lots of palaces in it. First of all, we will visit the PENA PALACE, a beautiful palace dominating the village. This palace is like a fairy tale palace, constructed at the top of a cliff in a neo-romantic style. It was the last residence of the Portuguese Royal Family before escaping to Brazil for exile. After the visit of the palace we will then have some free time for leisure to stroll along the small lanes of Sintra, discover the many handicraft shops and have a coffee and a small "queijada" (delicious Portuguese specialty) in a local and central coffee shop.

After that we will cross the mountain and the beautiful landscape to arrive at Cabo da Roca -- the westernmost point of Europe, where the view over the Atlantic Ocean is astonishing. Those who wish can have their own certificate testifying their presence at this cape (not included in the price).

The return to Lisbon will be along the Atlantic ocean admiring the sandy beaches of the coast, namely Cascais and Estoril.

Price : 35 € per participant.
